ok. i need a more interesting title for my blog posts. this is getting WAY boring.
today's breakfast was similar to yesterday's. had bacon and egg today. but the bacon still looked like ham anyway. then it was hot black tea and iced milk tea. thats all.
after that was more free time until 10am. went to play pool against the boys from RI. got trashed by them! cuier and i made a personal commitment to beat the boys at pool by the time taiwan immersion ended! we're practicing SUPER hard(:
after that was some crappy opening ceremony. it was so interesting that i couldnt help but fall aslp halfway-.-
followed by more free time. went to play pool again. unfortunately, we sort of lost track of the time we were suppose to meet for lunch and the whole lot of us (6 RGS girls and most of the RI guys) got fined NT100 (SGD$5). OUCH.
lunch was relatively gloomy. the food was also hard to stomach! i mean like, there were taiwan sausages. and mabel low kept talking about what the sausages were made off. haha. lin wen's face was SO FUNNY. and claire went on to say that the century egg we were eating was dipped in horse pee! haha. lost all our appetite. the only thing that was safe from all these was the vegetables. o yeah! we ate that same restaurant again.
after lunch was a bit more free time, 45mins to be exact. one of those SUPER waste time breaks. so roxanne, xiaowei, angie and i went back up to our room to try and sleep. we ended up talking for the entire time.
then we went for our placement test. this test is suppose to assess our chinese standard to decide which class to place us for the duration of the taiwan immersion. THERE WAS A SUPER SUPER LONG AND BORING LISTENING COMPREHENSION. this thing had 3 parts. first part was the interpretation of one sentence. sencond part was interpretation of a dialogue consisting of 2 sentences long. WOW. how fun. last part was where they read an entire passage of 8-10 sentences for us to answer ONE question. WASTE TIME. then there was the normal grammer part. and MCQ comprehension. SUCKS. everything is in fan ti zi (olden chinese words) and it was so hard to even read anything. and we had to write a 200 word essay about what we do during our free time. talk about cruel. then there was ORAL. the teacher asked weird questions like "do you watch movies?" "have you been to sing karaoke?" haha. claire mok was super funny! she was like,
claire: yes ive sung karaoke.
teacher: where?
claire: in school.
teacher: what do you sing?
claire: songs.
teacher: *impatiently* what kind of songs?
claire: songs that ive heard before.
haha it was super funny! i think the teacher wanted to kill her afterwards. then there was PICTURE DISCRIPTION. WE WERE SUPPOSE TO DESCRIBE THE PICTURE. LIKE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL. AND THEY WERE TESTING OUR PREPOSTIONS. LIKE WHETHER WE KNEW WHAT UP, DOWN. LEFT AND RIGHT WAS IN CHINESE.
after the test was dinner. we got to place our orders with the teacher for today's dinner. i ordered fried rice and my other 3 roommates, roxanne, xiaowei and angie ordered some weird noodle thing. it looked kinda weird. it was really thick. the kind where you have to eat strand by strand. and it was totally flour tasting.
after that we returned to out room to play taiti- erm cards. yupp. then we went to play MORE POOL. (IM GONNA BE SO GOOD AT IT BY THE TIME I LEAVE TAIWAN. and im gonna be good at table tennis too). we practised playing 2 rounds before the guys joined us. i have no idea what the names of the guys that played with us were. they trashed us in the 1st round we played. we didnt get far in the 2nd round coz they whacked the black ball into the hole. HAHA. so we won! yay. 3rd round went well. unfortunately, we had to return to our rooms for bedcheck at 9pm so we didnt get to finish the game. when we left, RGS sec3s- 3 balls left, RI sec2s- 4 balls left. haha. so we 'won'! the boys' excuse for losing? they were giving us chance. RIGHT.
so now im back in the room, having eaten an ENTIRE fuji apple. im so full. and my jaw hurts from chewing. haha. ohoh! the class placements are out! im in the 2nd class. the average class. class 3 is the best and class 1 is the worst. yay middle.
ok i shall go do my chinese reflections. due tomorrow morning before breakfast.
